Playlist for Wednesday, September 16, 2020 (10am-Noon)
Hello, Goodbye In reverse chronological order, these are the tracks that have ended my shows for the past year or so. The first and last songs on the playlist are usually the first ones I select, and the last one tends to be something I really like that just didn't fit in anywhere else.
"Original Pink Floyd leader Syd Barrett had hardly been seen in public for about a decade when Television Personalities claimed to know his whereabouts in the indie pop-folk ditty "I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives," the pastoral atmosphere of the Barrett-esque tune enhanced by constant bird chirps. The band was removed as the supporting act on a mid-1980s tour by Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour after giving out Barrett's actual address onstage. Contended songwriter Daniel Treacy, 'No one writes it down, no one believes it for a minute!'"
Remember, the mid-80s was when the college boys started sporting Ollie North haircuts and joining the Reagan Youth. Now they're living in the flyover states and stockpiling ammo for when Trump gets turfed out. I kind of miss the '80s.
This has been a September staple going back a few years now. For me it captures the melancholy that hits every year at the onset of fall and winter, before the leaves start to turn and I get grooving on New England autumn. Goodbye my friends!
