Richard Thompson Interview Show I cannot tell you, my friends, how much time I have spent with the music of Richard Thompson over the years since my discovery in the early '70s of the greatest British folk rock band of all time, Fairport Convention, whose five albums from 1967-1970 never fail to delight and/or amaze. Richard, a stunningly accomplished guitar player, began writing songs in that band at age 18, and I believe he has the strongest 50+ year catalog out there, surpassing in quality that of such iconic figures as Neil Young and Paul McCartney, who still thrive but do not maintain the quality of RT from album to album. From Fairport to a decade creating music with his wife Linda to a 36-year solo career, he has released 78 albums if you also include live discs, compilations, soundtracks and fan club releases. And at age 70, he's about to celebrate at the Royal Albert Hall in September with a cast of...well, he doesn't even know at this point. Am I fawning? Oh you bet.
