Adrian Belew (solo, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, King Crimson, etc.) Interview Show Hot guitarist Adrian Belew was treated for a while like a hot potato: discovered by Frank Zappa in 1977 (while playing in a cover band), poached by David Bowie, and then joining Talking Heads. After the barely two year stints with each of these groundbreaking artists, he settled in for a while with King Crimson and concurrently began his long solo career, releasing about 20 solo albums over the last 38 years. His playing is at times wildly idiosyncratic avant-rock, at others melodic a la the Beatles, perhaps the cornerstone for his work. Adrian is a gem and recognized as such by many acclaimed artists (Nine Inch Nails and Laurie Anderson have also utilized his talents) and fans. Here is part of his story.
